The Alpha Upsilon Alpha Chapter proudly participated in Phi Theta Kappa’s Good As Gold Week. This year, Good As Gold Week was celebrated from November 13-17. This week is internationally acclaimed to be the ultimate celebration of Phi Theta Kappa. During this week, headquarters has assigned each day a different topic surrounding Phi Theta Kappa.
Monday, Pinnacle Day, some of Alpha Upsilon Alpha’s officers staffed a table outside of the Cougar Café in the Lowe Building promoting membership. Phi Theta Kappans wore their Phi Theta Kappa shirts and membership pins to show some of the benefits of becoming a member. International’s informational brochures were handed out as people stopped to look through the scrapbooks and the awards that were laid out on the table for display. The chapter also took this day to reach out to those who didn’t accept membership the first time around and to inform them that it wasn’t too late to join!
Tuesday, Scholarship Day, Alpha Upsilon Alpha hosted an hour-long information session on scholarships that are offered at Manchester Community College. Patrick Sullivan, advisor to the Alpha Upsilon Alpha chapter, provided students with information on how to apply for scholarships and who to see for more information on them.
Friday, Founder’s Day, the chapter ended Good As Gold Week with a Founder’s Day Celebration! On this day, we celebrated Phi Theta Kappa’s birthday, as well as one of our beloved advisors, Elaine Wiatr. Elaine has done a lot for Manchester’s chapter as well as the New England Region, and so we celebrated her on this day as well. Two cakes were made in honor of Phi Theta Kappa, and ice cream was served. A pot luck dinner was served for those who were invited to share in our celebration. Attendees ranged from former officers of the Alpha Upsilon Alpha chapter, to the Vice President of the Student Senate, Narjis Hussain, to Dean Carter, to President Daube, to new officers of the Manchester chapter. Games were provided for anyone who wanted to stay after the food and play a few games of Scattergories or Pictionary. All in all it was a great time! Thank you to everyone who has supported the chapter at Manchester Community College, and thank you for attending our birthday celebration!
